What is a Transition Fund™

A Transition fund is a financial cushion designed to provide flexibility in making lifestyle or career changes without the fear of financial instability. Essentially, it’s a strategic financial tool that supports your next big move with confidence and security.

Unlike traditional savings, your Freedom Fund is proactive, not reactive. It’s built with purpose, aligning with your long-term goals so you can create wealth while protecting your lifestyle freedom.

By using this calculator, you’re taking an intentional step toward designing a lifestyle of freedom where you control your time, income, and opportunities. Ready to build your Freedom Fund? Let’s get started.

Monthly Expenses

Current Monthly Expenses

Your current monthly expenses include all the essential and lifestyle costs you incur each month. Make sure to include:

  • Housing: Rent, mortgage, property taxes, utilities
  • Transportation: Car payments, fuel, public transport, insurance
  • Insurance: Health, home, auto, life insurance
  • Personal Care: Medical expenses, prescriptions, self-care, grooming, food, self development
  • Dependents: Childcare, pet expenses.
  • Subscriptions & Entertainment: Streaming services, memberships, hobbies
  • Debt Payments: Credit cards, student loans, personal loans
  • Savings & Investments: Any automatic savings or retirement contributions
  • Other Expenses: Out of pocket business expenses
Expected after the transition

Your expenses might change after transitioning into your next phase. To determine your estimated expected expenses after the transition, ask yourself the follwoing questions:

  • Will you move to a lower or higher cost of living area?

  • Will certain expenses decrease (e.g., no more commuting) or increase (e.g., private health insurance)?

  • Will new business-related costs emerge if you’re starting a venture?

  • Will you need to budget for an extended period without income?

Adjust your expected expenses accordingly to reflect the reality of your transition.

Find your local inflation rate

Inflation affects your purchasing power over time. To get an accurate estimate of your local inflation rate:

  • Check government economic reports (e.g., Statistics agencies, Central Banks)

  • Visit financial news websites that report annual inflation trends

  • Look at consumer price index (CPI) data for your country or region.

Use this rate to ensure your Freedom Fund accounts for future price increases.

What is the Additional Buffer?

The additional buffer is a financial cushion added on top of your calculated Freedom Fund to cover unexpected expenses. It protects you from:

  • Delayed income from a new job or business

  • Unexpected medical or emergency costs

  • Market fluctuations or economic downturns

A recommended buffer is at least 10-20% of your total fund goal, but you can adjust this based on your risk tolerance and transition plan.
